The Marine Corps Marathon was established in 1976, and as of 2009, became the fourth largest marathon in the United States and the eighth largest in the world. The event is so popular that its 30,000 entries sell out in a few hours, and it attracts runners from more than 50 participating countries.
BP is proud to support Team Semper Fi Fund in the Marine Corp Marathon. Team Semper Fi is the sport recovery program offered by Semper Fi Fund, and is comprised of approximately 150 injured Marines and 750 supporters and fundraisers. Team Semper Fi is the largest charity team represented in the Marine Corp Marathon.
The Semper Fi Fund was created by a group of Marine Corps spouses ten years ago, and those same women run the Fund today alongside other spouses from all services branches, retired service members, all of whom intimately know the needs of our military families. These family members have been by their injured and ill service members' sides from day one, helping them as they navigate lengthy recoveries and rejoin their communities.
